Dissonance
Holding the joy of a lovely vacation with the threat of war looming.
Cherishing uninterrupted stretches to read and write with the loss of reading freedoms for so many.
Taking time with young people to dream about jobs, futures, travel, adventure while others are hopeless in the face of hateful policies.
Let me keep straddling both worlds, and chose connection, community and care.
Let me navigate the need for joy, freedom and dreaming while using vital energy to raise a fist, a voice to fight injustice.
Let these days strengthen me and build my resolve to do hard things.
Very grateful to be on a short vacation for a few days before a conference in Los Angeles (will anyone else be at AERA? Please let me know!). Yet feeling so unsteady about the world. Today's Slice is an opportunity to name the dissonance and recognize I must learn how to work through it.
