I'm committed to Slicing all month, so putting a few systems in place to help me make it work, even though it's a month with some serious travel and coaching residencies. So my first idea is to do a "3 things" list on the dates with a 3, and March 3rd is the FIRST ONE - whoooo-hoooo!
3 things that can shift my mood:
1. A great playlist - I am definitely a "music sets the mood" person and my appreciation for energizing, hopeful playlists remains constant. I've continued to like this All Songs Considered mix from November 2024 (whoever thought to add the closing credits of E.T. to the set is brilliant!).
2. Any snack in a small beautiful pottery bowl. It can be some sugar snap peas that have seen better days or stale almonds. As long as this little bowl holds the treats, my mood is lifted and I feel a bit spoiled, like I'm a VIP deserving of TLC (and we all are, right?!).
3. Sending real mail. I realize our very postal service is at risk, so sending a card in the mail feels especially special, and I'm making an effort to mail a few cards out every week. I could never buy another card again and still have dozens and dozens left over, so it's a good feeling to part with them, getting them off my shelf and into someone's hands with a note that they are loved, appreciated, seen. That they absolutely matter.
I need to have a keen personal radar tuned in, so when I feel down, I can remember how many small easy things can shift me back into gear. Now, pass the stale almonds please!
My snack bowls look like these!
What a great list! I love music too and have playlists for everything! I even have a date night playlist, even though I never go on dates 🤣, but I’m ready whenever it happens!!
ReplyDeleteWell of course, you know curious readers want a link to that date night playlist! There are times we all need that vibe, with or without dates :)
DeleteI like this format. Speaking of music, have you read Question Love’s books about music history? They’re fun. I’ve been on a raw whipped honey kick lately and enjoy it in tiny dishes, but it’s choosing the right coffee mug each morning I enjoy most. Your snack bowls are cute. Like you, I worry about losing US Mail. I need to get back into my postcard routine.
ReplyDeleteI love the connection between mugs and snack bowls... I'm making a note now to consider a future Slice about my favorite mug! And YES to Quest Love's music book. He's a real musical hero, and now I'm wondering... does he share playlists??? (Hanif Abdurraqib is another favorite writer about music and he's always posting up his personal playlists, and they are each a little gift!)
DeleteLove the snack bowls! Everything is better when food is involved!
ReplyDeleteI looove this idea, and will definitely keep it in! I share your number one, and the way you wrote about snack bowls inspired me to think and maybe write about the particular use of bowls in my house. I’m glad to have found your blog!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Ana. I think I'll be doing a few slices about the ways every day objects can bring joy, and I'll look forward to reading your bowl post!
DeleteOops my comment went as Anonymous, sorry!
ReplyDeleteI love the "pass the stale almonds" finish, and I too am a believer in the power of the snail mail to make someone feel seen.
ReplyDeleteYes - imagine if every Slicer spent a different month writing snail mail letters... that would be a beautiful thing! (And I did just finish a bag of stale almonds from holiday baking!)
DeleteI love that you have the snacks in the pottery bowls! Just like coffee, snacks taste better in specific vessels. I am so glad you are slicing this month! I feel like I get to reconnect with you this way - although I do follow your book IG!
ReplyDeleteTammy, I love seeing you here, too - it's like an annual connection point. I need to hop over to your Slices - they always inspire me!!!
DeleteThe snack bowls are adorable. The card sending is a lost art in Estonia. For me it died with my aunt. She was consistent in sending cards for all occasions.
ReplyDeleteThis is a great idea! Thank you for sharing it and the playlist! Listening now and I love it.
ReplyDeleteYES - a good playlist is SUCH a mood - I'm actually going to play it while I write responses! (The other day, I ended up listening to the whole ET soundtrack - John Williams really knows how to use music to set a mood.)
Deleteoops! I also didn't switch to my id! My apologies.
ReplyDeleteHello! KO here from #SOL25 - I LOVE putting my snacks and food in beautiful bowls and on beautiful plates with an eye towards making them "special." It makes such a difference and is a small joy. I also LOVE a great playlist (boy do I miss "mixtapes") -- and for SURE I love snail mail. I am always in the market for new pen pals! Lovely post!
ReplyDeleteI love the 3 Things on the Threes idea!
ReplyDeleteLove this format! I may be borrowing your prompts the day after! Thank you.
ReplyDeleteI also posted to celebrate 3 today! :) I had to take a picture at 3:33 on 3/3, ha! Love your snack bowls. AND YES to snail mail. I haven't prioritized sending snail mail; it's been on my monthly challenges each year for the last 2-3 years. I never send as many as I hope for, but it's definitely such a delightful act. Thanks for the reminder and inspiration; I need to get back to trying it again! -britt
ReplyDeleteSuch a great idea! It's the simple ideas that work the best with slicing. I love your snack bowl and how it lifts your mood whatever is in it! And nothing, absolutely nothing beats real mail...or good music!
ReplyDeleteI love this idea of Three Things...I'm going to have to give it a try. Isn't it funny how many people have a favorite mug or dish? I asked my daughter recently to hand me my coffee mug from the cupboard. She opened it and stared at me...she had no idea that my coffee only tastes right out of the green one! But my mom and dad always had a favorite mug and my kids have always had favorite snack bowls. My 21 year old son still talks about the cookie dish he used when he went to grandma's house as a toddler.
ReplyDeleteI love the idea of 3 on 3s, and I love, love thinking about three things that shift our moods. Like almost everyone else, I will probaby be using this format :D. Love the bowls! My friend bought me a beautiful bowl that I chipped so haven't used because I want to fix it, but I did so enjoy eating snacks out of it. Thanks for the reminder to fix it!
