Buying books

Today, I opened the most excellent box of books, ordered before a week-long trip (ie, I forgot I'd be coming home to this awesomeness!).

Like others, I've let go of Amazon unless it's really, really urgent (and it's helpful to know that most of what I used to deem urgent is not!), and found other ways to feed my book habit:
- independent book stores
- the library
- the lovely Libby app
- AND other companies like bookshop.org, Thrift Books and Book Outlet

This stack pictured is from Book Outlet - 10 books (I already tucked away a copy of Do the Work to bring to a friend) for under $63. I used my regular "one book under $5 free" coupon AND got free shipping, too.

I have become more and more committed to buying and sharing books. Used to be that buying was my main vibe, but I now, I'm off delivering books and ensuring books end up in kids' hands, in parents' hands, in my community's hands. Seeing my dusty, overflowing book shelves is a reminder of how much a adore having books and how important it is to share them and prevent that layer of dust from forming. If you asked my husband, he might give me a C (or maybe even a C-) if asked to grade my move-these-books-out-of-the-house effort. But I see progress, and I know if I take it one book at a time, I can bump myself up to a B!
