Yesterday, Today, Tomorrow

Yesterday I spent the day with newer instructional coaches. We visited classrooms and practiced scripting. We read self-selected excerpts from Building Thinking Classrooms and shared what we're learning. They led a professional development session, a "Lunch and Learn" focused on remixing some typical classroom pedagogies to encourage more student-to-student talk - there was so much to celebrate as we read exit tickets (and some good pushes for next steps, too). We set goals to ensure the next two months have focus and purpose. I know how tiring these last days before spring break are; so grateful for their energy to reflect, collaborate, lead PD, set goals.

Today I'm spending the morning with a friend who had surgery yesterday. She can't be home alone yet, so I'm quietly Slicing in her family room, waiting for her 5 year old daughter to come home from a sleepover. I have a bag of good fun (I think?!) to get us through our time together. Books (of course), Trader Joe's cinnamon rolls (to bake & eat), and a very cool art project, using vellum to make a wrap for a flameless (ie, battery-powered) candle. She's the kinda kid who will take charge and let me know exactly what she wants to do. I secretly hope she loves the art project.

Tomorrow A little bit warmer, maybe the mid-50s. I'm in charge of the morning dog walk, so I'm hoping Auggie will decide to sleep in. He'll know it's Sunday, right? I should start my day with a to-do list, brain-dumping the many things I need to get done before this month wraps-up. PD to plan, emails to send, care packages to send, books to share, more emails to send. But no matter what, I'll be at Palm Sunday services at 11:00 am, grateful for my church community and the chance for some Lenten reflection.

Update: We didn't touch the books BUT the art project was a huge hit!

  1. Sounds like a very full day. I am glad the art project went well. I wonder how the cinamon rolls went. Thanks for introducing me to the teaching book too.
