Writing back to Timothy Snyder

Trying something new...

For today's Slice, a handwritten post (something I've meant to do all month!). I'm writing back to one of Timothy Snyder's lessons in his book On Tyranny. I intended to do this with a poem, but lately, have felt the pull to return to Snyder's book almost daily, like a devotional sharing guidance on how to live a faithful life - a life faithful to democracy (lower case d) and care for other humans.

I know this scan isn't ideal, so I'll keep working on the visual (ie, next time, a better source copy and leaving a margin at the edges).

If you want a better view, you can find it HERE, along with more about Snyder's book.

  1. I wish people would listen to Timothy Snyder and others like him. He has warned people for years, but so many sit back and pretend we are not governed by a fascist regime. I love seeing g teachers in this community writing political posts. It’s important to make eye contact and speak up.

    1. I agree, Glenda, I feel like fascism is here and we need to be more engaged. I’m trying not to judge other people, but invite them to join the fight. No Kings tomorrow will hopefully engage new folks!

    1. Heidi, I would love to know if you decide to write back to Snyder. His chapters are perfect for this kind of response. Maybe you will do a better job copying than I did!!!

  3. Guess what, even in Australia I've hear of Timothy Snyder and have recently subscribed to his substack posts. His conversations display a lot of wisdom.

    1. Yes, Celia! is Substack is a source of such helpful information. I always appreciate that. He calls us in to take action, and it is definitely time for action here in America!
