Slice realization: today is not quite halfway and tomorrow will be more than halfway!
Our power, out since Friday afternoon, came on tonight, so we're back home!
Did a quick fridge clean out (bummer).
Re-washed the load that got stuck in the washer on Friday during the storm.
Loaded a ton of vaseline on my itchy stitches, popped some Motrin to work on the swelling (I'm recovering from MOHS and reconstruction surgery - our skin is amazing).
Hopping in bed with two great YA books: The Pecan Sheller by Lupe Ruiz-Flores and Olivetti by Allie Millington.
Before I totally unplug after an unexpected powerless weekend, I'm re-reading my notes from attending ICE Defense training. It's my third time taking the training, and the first time I presented on update on our group's fight against Flock cameras (learn more here: http://shakeoffflock.org).
Our dedicated, smart, taking-many-personal-risks trainers shared many insights, dropped a ton of knowledge, told stories, clarified facts. They made certain we understood that being a documenter comes with risks, and it's important to study this language, say it out load every night. Say it clearly and with confidence. You must state out loud that you're exercising your right to remain silent (fact check me here). So before I snuggle in with books, grateful for my phone powering up, I clear my throat and repeat these out loud:
Am I being detained?
I do not consent to a search.
I want to talk to an attorney.
I am exercising my right to remain silent.
