Simple pleasures today

Simple pleasures today.
- Closing many many many windows. Many. So my beloved and appreciated computer is no longer complaining by shutting down mid-Zoom, mid-sentence, mid-project. Yes, my good and trusty Macbook, you so deserved a real restart. I'm sorry not to have done this sooner.
- Delivering a book and love note to a friend going through a transition, a big change in her professional life. She is going to be fine, she will. But sometimes it's right to notice that this moment is painful and allow her to sit with those feelings.
- Loading up a Little Free Library. Moving books off my shelf and into others' hands. I take a picture, thank them for their service to me, then kiss them goodbye and know that they will find a new reader.
- Reading and commenting on loads of Slices today, and finding lots of seeds for my own writing life (I cut & paste into a Note called "Slice 2026" and use it when I get stuck or need quick inspiration).
- Ordering some of my favorite stickers from Lisa Congdon, who is closing up her shop. I love tucking these into a care package or sometimes send them as a card, jotting a note on the back. This one is a favorite:

- Catching up with a friend. We've been playing phone tag for two weeks finally got 20 minutes to really hear each other's voices, sliding right into our friendship and the ups & downs of our lives. She's a therapist and asks rich questions, and then... listens. What a gift!
- Rounding up all my new professional books that have been far flung across the house and moving that beautiful stack to my desk for some much-anticipated reading time next week.

- Zooming into Saturday Reunion (which deserves a longer, focused Slice), a three-hour, multi-workshop gathering of committed literacy educators, coaches & leaders. Each session helped me deepen my commitment to my literacy practices AND my growth as a literacy practitioner and coach. And being in community is important right now, when threats to public education feel like (or maybe just ARE) threats to our democracy. (Save the Date - they announced that Fall 2026 would be October 17. It's free and all are invited!)

Tonight, I've got a friend's birthday party - snacking and crafting. So this Saturday is a true weekend reset of good things.

  1. Loving hearing about so many types of resets. Love the kissing of the books goodbye. I need to do that!
