Resistance is Holy Work

Resistance is Holy Work. Resistance is what it means to tell the truth and defend people in public, even—and especially—when it is inconvenient, dangerous, and uncomfortable.

Resistance.
One water bottle.
Two clipboards with sign-up sheets. Two mittens, too.
Ten pens.
100 QR code handouts - let's get Flock cameras out of our community.
Ten friends planning to join me.
Two granola bars. Two hours tomorrow.
One new sign.
Holy work.
Thanks to my friend Linda for making me this sign.

  3. Yes, I will be there. Debating whether to make a new sign. So many new concerns. I like your sign.

    1. My friend Linda can't physically protest right now, but she's an amazing artist. I feel so energized by her beautiful (and meaningful!) sign.

  4. The format of this slice--this poem--is so lovely. I really like the counting objects--and the mirroring of how many items you have. Holy work indeed. I'll be at a rally with a sign, myself, though not as artistic as yours.

    1. Thank you, Natasha - I knew I wanted to use "resistance" and "holy work" as book ends, and after drafting a long list, I realized the counting was a good way to pull it together. I flipped-flopped to put "holy work" at the end, not the beginning, after reading it aloud. Isn't it funny how reading aloud helps you edit - I need to remember to do that more often!

  5. Oh, yes, Lisa, that is holy work. I will be there, as at least a half-dozen new people in my circles. I love your sign. Nice job, Linda! Have a great day.

  6. Awesome sign! My husband just finished ours. When I showed him yours, he said, "That's a good one." Right beside you!

  7. Dr. Seuss elevated to a new echelon! Forget "One fish, two fish...", my friend!
