Slice vibes

Yesterday's holiday was a chance to get. things. done.
Two grocery stores, three shopping errands (thank goodness that two were online pick-ups, so I could avoid actual shopping!). Then a dozen emails/write-ups that have been been lingering - and of course, I did not get to all, but a few important things crossed off the list and that always feels good, to be productive.
As I sit at my kitchen table, I've got these blushing pinky-yellow tulips towering above the golden ranunculus, reminding me that seasons change, and sunshine will soon be a part of every day. Sunshine, and color, and beauty, and warmth.
I've been practicing my sentence a day, working out for March's challenge. Yes, with plenty of misses, but also many days where I get a long rambling sentence down, capturing a small moment, a feeling, sometimes an ache of a missed opportunity or the grief of the pain in our world. I'm using a journal, not a device, and embracing the process - actual pen moving over actual paper and the pages filling up.
Living a writing life is part of my carrying on. I had good reason to re-read To Be of Use this weekend, and it reminded me of the power of writing in community, linked to writers moving "in a common rhythm", all our pens on paper, all our pages filling up.

    1. What I did not mention was that my husband and dog were out of town, which means I could *really* get things done!

  2. I also like to write in a journal. Consider taking a photo of the journal page and posting the photo in March. When really crunched for time, I've done this and happy to show my handwritten comments! Reading your slide is getting me excited for March!!

    1. Love this, Sally. I wonder if we can get TWT to pick a hand-written Slice day for many of us to do the same?

  3. I had not read this poem, and I have printed it and plan to write beside it soon. I love the idea of moving" in a common rhythm." Was there something written on TWT about the sentence a day? I vaguely remember something and am curious about what you are doing with this to get ready for March!

  5. I love the way you captured your building up for the SOL challenge. I too have been trying to notice and write down moments that prior would have slipped by and struggled with one long sentence into another. Thanks for the inspiration today.

  6. Loved this line from your post: "Living a writing life is part of my carrying on." Also loved this phrase: "... the power of writing in community, linked to writers moving 'in a common rhythm', all our pens on paper, all our pages filling up." Rhythm is my OLW this year, so I'm excited to focus on our common rhythm of writing in March. Like Leigh Anne, I've printed the poem and I look forward to exploring the link at the bottom of that page - Poems of Hope and Resilience. Maybe it's time for the editors to make a new collection of these.
