I have nothing, nothing to complain about

This Tuesday, I drink glass after glass of ice water because it's so sticky humid icky hot, and while I don't want to complain about sunny days, here I am, complaining about how the fan is positioned, and that my towel that smells weird, and all this water I need to drink because we don't have AC up here in Michigan, where I also eat cherries, and go to the Farmers Market, and twist my hair up after a swim, and I am baking brownies, even though it's so hot, the chocolate cherry mix was too hard to pass up and it kept calling to me, "Bake me, bake me, it is not so hot, and I only take 33 minutes."

  1. You make me smile... baking when it is hot. I know how that goes... just today I decide to have biscuits with chicken and gravy for lunch. Well, that meant a 450 degree oven. My husband walked into the kitchen just after I tooke the biscuits out of the oven and said, "Wow, it's really hot in here!" I liked the free flow of your slice, like a free writing, leaving it up to the reader where a sentence ends. It creates a mood so familiar to hot, sticky lazy summer days.

    1. The brownies are out of the oven and smell sooooo good, and I'm guessing those biscuits were delish, Alice!!! Thanks for noticing the structure. I tried it as short line over short line, but the smooshy-paragraph-without-punctuation seemed to fit better. I might try to revise it without so many "ands".

  2. "Bake me, bake me...I only take 33 minutes." I love this so. I can almost hear the package. Sometimes a little bit of hell-to-pay brings heaven—in the form of cherry brownies. Enjoy them. (The detail about no AC really helps me "feel"you and that damp twist of hair atop your head? I know that so well!)

    1. Patricia, I love that you caught that line about twisting my hair up - I almost took it out/it was too random, but it also felt like it belonged to me, even if others were like "What is she talking about?"

  3. Lisa, your post is a happy slice - so very needed in our day with so much sad news. I love the image of you with hair wet from a swim baking brownies that call to you.
