Slice of this moment

7:04 pm.
Today's work day started with voting and just ended a few minutes ago, when I wrapped up a Zoom interview of a candidate for a policy position at Honesty for Ohio Ed.

I've taken over my son's desk for my own work space. He's been living in LA for 3 years, so I think it's OK. I do love having his trophy as my work mate.
I can't find my good earbuds, so my old ones are tangled up next to me. There's a scattering of colorful post-it notes in 4 different shapes. Two or three Flair pens, too. Two chapsticks, 3 social justice pins (RESIST!). Two large stacks of books used as resources for projects or calls or creating content - they all need to be re-shelved. It's messy, and needs a good clean-up.

The desk chair is not comfortable, but I haven't considered getting a new one, as this set-up has felt temporary, but now maybe it's time to make a plan.

The news of the day depressed me every time I got in the car. Cuts, and harm, and angry words. I held it together all day, but this messy and plan-less work area seem to reflect the disorganization of the world.

I gently coil the earbuds.
Slide the pens into a pouch. Stack the post-its.
Move the chapsticks. Wipe down the surface.
Put the button on.
Resist.

    1. YES - so appreciate all the good troublemakers stirring it up right now. We must keep going - and there is room for all of us. You'll find your space, I just know it.

I loved your post! I liked how you started with this “temporary” space and are now making it your own. There is something about setting up a space that just makes me feel better. Thank you for sharing.

  4. Love all the details -- the Flair pens, the chapsticks -- and how creating a little bit of order in your own corner of the world can ground you to bring that energy for bigger projects. Resist indeed!
