Yesterday - Today - Tomorrow

So much good art at https://shop.badgebomb.com/

I jotted down the inspiration for this Slicing idea several years, and it felt perfect for this morning...

Yesterday...
I ate warm naan, swirling it in my tikka masala sauce, scooping up the cubes of paneer. It was a precious lunch alone. I chatted about the pros and cons of flavored naan with the friendly waiter (I'm all about plain naan, brushed with oil while it's still warm), kept off my phone, and savored the flavors and the solitude.

Today...
I'm in Austin for an all day retreat, considering "Culture Wars, Curriculum Conflicts & Public Schools". I am wearing my favorite social justice t-shirt, my "Persist" pin, and bringing my notebook and favorite pens, ready to make connections, gather ideas and find community.

Tomorrow...
I'm headed to Tucson to visit my parents, who now escape the Cleveland snow and ice, and are kind enough to rent a place with extra bedrooms. The Arizona desert is a completely new ecosystem for me, and my mom and I always make time to stroll the meandering paths of Tohono Chul to see blooming flowers, bees and birds, and huge cacti. It's a good place to take deep breaths. And I truly need some calming... deep... breaths...

  1. Thanks for the reminder of this format, one I also have enjoyed in the past. I hope you have a rich and rewarding day at the retreat and that the visit to Tucson provides that calm. The "yesterday" mini-slice was so evocative!

    1. I keep an active "Note" on my laptop and gather ideas all year. I really should put them on an anchor chart, too :)

    1. I don't usually have such big shifts over 3 days, but that's what I love about Slicing - it helps me capture moments and stories.

  7. Wow, what a great format. Especially when you have such interesting events going on. Now that I think about it, your writing makes each day interesting--beginning with a simple meal alone telling what naan you prefer and about the friendly waiter. Beautiful post.
