I can hold my fear
for our country, divided,
for our country, divided,
and still work for light.
Turn off the news! But
somehow, stay informed, so we
are never silent.
I make daily calls.
But I'm trying to show up
in real life, too.
Inclusion is not
an evil enemy; it's
what makes us great now.
Your poems work well together. I especially like your second one. We must not remain silent. arjeha
ReplyDeleteThanks, arjeha - we all need to find ways to use our voices against injustice, and I'm heartened that there are so many ways to speak up and speak out.
DeleteI was recently putting some poems together in a presentation, and one of them was New Colossus… I was thinking it seems important to teach now. I appreciate the ways you are being active. It is going to take “the people” getting involved to bring change. Our voices must get loud.
ReplyDeleteYes, I'm going to using this poem more often in classrooms and workshops, too - great reminder to share it, and YES YES to raising our voices!

ReplyDeleteHi! It's KO from #SOL25 -- I love "I'm trying to show up in real life too" -- something that's increasingly challenging, so a win when when can do it.
ReplyDeleteHere's to supporting each other in showing up, building relationships and working for change!
DeleteThese are so beautiful. I love each of the stanzas, but perhaps the first and third the very best. I hope you share this poem in other venues as well--it needs to be read by everyone!
ReplyDeleteOh, thank you, Natasha - I am thinking about sharing them some friends, and your note gives me some confidence (I don't share my blog with anyone, just the Slice community!).
