It's March 13, a date with a "3" in it, so I'm doing another "3 things" slice (a little extra structure to help me write all month). March 3 HERE, if you're interested.

Three looming things on my to-do list

1. I need to cull through my books and start giving some away. For many years, I've justified my extravagant book purchases (Support independent bookstores! Books my own kids will read! Books I need for coaching!), and now, the stacks are embarrassingly high and the need for books in kids' hands is growing. Luckily, I can share these books with coachees, friends with younger children, Little Free Libraries and my local library's book sale. I must commit to getting this done this summer, pushing these books into the world.

2. I have to get back to my daily 20 minute workout. I made such great progress in January and February, starting so small (10 minutes) and seeing the difference daily active movement makes. Then, too much travel and too many to-do's made it easy for me to drop this practice, and it's NOT OK. So I've got a date with myself tomorrow to calendar in the next 2 weeks, and more importantly, a date with my accountability partner to cheer me on (and kick my butt, too). I hope I'm reporting back on this via a celebration Slice by March 31.

3. I went on my first solo vacation last year - 5 days at a tech-free spa that also offered daily classes (a journaling session, a sound bath, yoga and stretching). I need to have a plan for when I'm taking my next trip. It does NOT need to be as fancy as this first trip, but if I don't calendar it now, it won't happen in 2025. I love family vacations. I really enjoy traveling with my husband; visiting my parents; girls trips, too. But this solo vacation was important for my health and wellness, and I need to prioritize getting away with me.

What is looming on YOUR list? And do you have a plan for getting it done?

  1. I enjoyed this format -- and a self-vacation sounds amazing! I wonder if going through books, and crouching and lifting counts as your 20 minute workout?

    1. Heidi, you're a woman after my heart... book moving = aerobics! And yes: I highly recommend taking yourself on a vacation. I wait til I was 58, and I should have done it decades sooner, for sure.

  2. A solo retreat sounds like a balm. The power of three shines through. Although you say these are looming on your to-do list, by articulating what you want to have happen you're creating a pathway to action.

    1. YES, Sherri - "balm" is the perfect word for that trip, and the goal of future trips, too. Now, let me just get into the groove of the pathways forged today...

  3. I need to cull books, too. I also need to purge a lot of stuff that's accumulated. I also need to get an accountability partner and read more of your posts! I love the idea of having a solo vacation. That makes so much sense!

    1. Please keep reading, Barbara :) And let me know how your book culling goes. I just know I'll feel so so much better if I can re-home some of them!

  4. All three of your "to-do's" are worth writing about, for sure. When you said, "I hope I'm reporting back on this via a celebration Slice by March 31," I was thinking you should give yourself a pat on the back on the 23rd, yet another three to celebrate your progress. I'll be watching for it (just like your "accountability partner." Love that!)

  5. I'm with you with the book give-aways. I look at my shelf and books are in disarray; I too need to give many away. I keep writing a to-do list but then I ignore it. Sometimes I specifically write: Friday Morning and underline it and hope to follow it but a lot is always left undone. Good idea to go public, like you did.

  6. Lisa, good for you! I love these priorities you have planned for. I have books to cull too, not as many as you probably because I have a small house and I've only been here 3 years. (I've done much bigger cullings in the past.) But anyway, like you, I buy books or find them second hand, and then I have to make room for more, so I'm going through them again. All the best as you pick up the exercising again and plan your next solo vacation. I usually don't set aside plans for myself, but kind of go as it comes. After reading this, I want to think about what my big looming thing is next and what my plan is.
