A little ridiculous to spend so much money on a suitcase, but I travel 2-3 times/month, and every time - EVERY time! - I use this bag, it makes me smile.
I landed in Tucson, deplaned from the very last row, but found the silver lining: that meant the bags were already sliding down to the carousel, and I had but a two minute wait for my fabulous new cherry red Away bag.
My parents were already nearby and picked me up easily; yet after two flights to get here, we still had a long-ish drive to their rental place. Found the silver lining: time to reconnect and find our flow, and just like it is with teenagers, the car is a great space to tell stories.
Once again, I am missing the Tucson Festival of Books (by just one week this time!), and I really do love-love-love hearing authors and wandering book tables and finding book swag (that, uhm, I don't really need). But hurray - my mom hands me a silver lining by mentioning she has a book that's come in at the library, and we can wander there with the breath-taking mountain views, public art and of course, books to read this weekend.
They settle into fixing a home-cooked meal, moving gracefully around each other, 60 years of dancing in the kitchen together, certain in their jobs, gently chiding each other ("Those potatoes aren't done yet?!"). This precious time with them is cloud-free... every day a silver lining.
I have to Reframe in my life a lot...I do like the phrase "finding the silver lining". Thank you for sharing!
ReplyDeleteFinding ways to see possibility, to get curious, to be solutions-oriented - this is hard and important work.
DeleteThis post is a lovely snapshot of finding silver linings where they are hard to find, and then also appreciating the good when it's obvious! I love the image of your parents in the kitchen.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Katlyn - I love watching my parents together and am recognizing that I need to be around them, and their love, as often as I can.
DeleteThe love in this post just oozes out of your words. Enjoy the small moments of your visit and savor those stories.

DeleteThanks so much :) I am feeling a lot of love on this visit - it's such an antidote to other ugliness happening in the world. I'm using it as fuel!
