I'm barely getting my post up on time, after a busy day of work - my one very-full work day during vacation (please do not judge me harshly).

Morning high: Finding out two of my grad students are choosing the "Sketchnoting" option for a project, sharing their learning via a visual representation of "what's interesting, what's important"... which is a push for me to include more opportunities to learn and practice sketchnoting and other visual/artistic learning modalities in my class.

Lunch time high: College admission news for my son, which he casually shared, which means I had to have an equally casual reaction: "Oh, that's great news, right?" "Yeah, I guess so." "Do you want to talk about it more?" "Not now, but can you make me a sandwich please, so I can finish this work?" (sandwich made, with love)

Afternoon high #1: A reconnection with a former classroom teacher, now a teacher-of-teachers extraordinaire, getting to talk about professional learning. Her smarts, grace and positivity make her such a gifted educator and helped me feel pushed to know & do better. (Also creating a push for me, to consider putting "show notes" into these mini interviews I'm doing with professional learning experts!)

Afternoon high #2: A loving text from an educator I've known since she was a first year teacher, thanking me for a "pep talk" we squeezed in yesterday.

Evening high: A family Zoom: taking two ridiculously silly polls, sharing hopes & dreams for future vacations together, seeing our daughter's data project, teasing my husband's lack of Zoom savvy, and showing them this blog (which they don't really know about!).

Bed time high: Getting in bed with Samira Ahmed's amazing Mad, Bad and Dangerous to Know. A YA romance novel that has me swooning (and I'm not a romance reader, but this story, crossing cultures, time, and so many art and literary references - I can't wait to finish this Slice to get back to reading!).

Yes, 3 of us were in the same house. But this works best.

  3. I love this Slice because I make an appearance (can I save those lines in my memory box?) but also because I read Samira Ahmed's book and could picture you settling in for the evening with a YA romance. TY for everything - from your Slicing comments to your joy, passion and honesty for education, equity and real human connection. I appreciate that about you most, Lisa. Hope to see you in Chitown soon! XX

    1. Yes, you can save those lines! I finished the book today, and now am moving on to all the links to keep reading poetry, looking at art, expanding my literary muscles. Sending all the love right back at you, Nawal. So grateful to have head your voice in the Slice this year, and now, on TWTs, too <3
