Quiet Night

(in case you'd like to listen)

I'm so grateful for this quiet space to write tonight.

I've already walked the dog, talking the "long block" instead of the short one, appreciative of the summer sun still so high in the sky in the early evenings close to solstice.
I'm spread out on the couch and the only one home; well, except for the dog, snuggled on top of my feet, grateful for his sunny walk!
I figured out how to put a Youtube video on looping, so I have some gentle background music, this Circle Chant that a friend shared to close a meeting last week, four of us singing without inhibitions.

In this quiet space, I'm holding back the list of things to do, because all of them can wait for morning. I've taken time to read other's Slicers, three writers I've never read before and each one a gift of a story. I'm going to make some of my favorite hot cinnamon tea and maybe even put on my PJs early. I've got Linda Sue Park's new book, Just One Gift, ready to read in bed. The first few pages set-up a fabulous premise and even better, take us into a classroom with some terrific teaching & writing going on. I'm hoping this book will be a great give-away for an institute next month, so reading to find a little excerpt we can read together.

I'm so grateful for this quiet space to write tonight.

  2. Your slice describe a perfect evening...the dog snuggled on your feet, a good book to read, and nothing on the to do list that can't wait until tomorrow. I loved the peaceful mood you captured, in real life and in your writing.

  3. Lisa,

Thank you for this calming, restful slice. I love the image of you singing with your colleagues, a sign of shared care, comfort and trust. Just what I needed after a long night and day of travel. I think I'll follow your lead and head to bed early with a book, Tayari Jones' Kin.
