Olivia's new album!

(There have been some heartbreaking moments since I last posted and they deserve my attention and writing time, too.)

Today, I'm sharing a musical post. I have *so much work to do* but Olivia Rodrigo's new album dropped last week and I'm a fan. Somehow, her rockin' out lyrics about the curse of cute boys appeals to the part of me that loves to jump/dance, pumping my fist in the air and shouting out her biting and clever anthems to heartbreak.

This song, expectations, is absolutely perfect. A fabulous beat. Great vocals from Olivia & her back-up singers. A perfectly paced chorus about learning lessons from all the terrible relationships 'til you're adored adored ADORED, because now you've got *expectations*!

This song makes me want to dance around, lose my head in the energy of the guitar riffs. Even writing this while listening, I'm tapping my foot, singing along:
Past mistakes are just new information
These days I’ve got expectations

Great songs set a mood, shift a mood, make you move. Cue the tears, the rage, the memories. Cue the big emotions - I'm 18 again or even WAIT, I never want to be 18 again (but OMG this song is everything).

It's an extra joy that Olivia is collaborating with Robert Smith from the Cure. For decades, his voice has permeated my life soundtrack, and now Olivia's giving him a new audience, and I hope they'll tune into the dreamy fabulous 1987 hit Just Like Heaven, even if it's just because Olivia loves it so.

Goodness, I have *so much work to do*, but I'm signing off here and taking one more bop around the table before settling down to grown-up life. Take a listen during your next break and see if you love Olivia as much as I do!

  1. Okay, I need to spend more serious listening time to Olivia. I like the songs I know, and you took it up a LOT of notches for me. Fun post to read.

    1. Gentle warning that there are a few F bombs in some of the songs, but I promise they are artistically placed and you might be dancing too much to notice!

  2. This is so much fun to read! I was chatting with a friend's adult son who spoke with the reverence of a fan pitching his favorite band before he texted carefully curated links to 2 performances by The Warning. It is so much fun to be invited into the exuberance of appreciation. Love this!

    1. I checked out The Warning - they are a rip-roaring guitar-heavy girl band - I think Olivia would like them!
