What I'm Looking At

A chilly pup who was expecting spring
(And we were expecting spring too).
Your favorite spot, a perch for viewing the world, waiting for spring or squirrels or rabbits
Or the neighbor "enemy dogs" who bother you, rile you up, get you barking even when you're safe at home.
We try to soothe you with our tone, our words.
"Auggie, Auggie, it's okay, you're okay, it's just enemy dog."
But nothing works, there is no calm til they pass out of sight.
Then you hop back up, snuggle in, the danger has passed.
That burst has tired you out. You look for a rub, some pup affection that lets you know you're our number one, which we tell you every day, show you every day.
Eyes slide closed, your body folds into your favorite perch.
Now you're just a chill pup who was expecting spring
(And we were expecting spring too).

What are you looking at, fellow Slicers?
